Let's look at the sentence: 'the cat sat on the mat'. This sentence needs a capital letter at the beginning and a period at the end. The correct version is: 'The cat sat on the mat.' Notice how the capital letter shows the start of the sentence and the period shows it is finished.

I will read a short paragraph, and we will edit it together. The paragraph is: 'the dog barks loudly it is happy' Let's identify what is wrong. First, we need a capital letter at the start. Then, we need a period at the end. We can also add a comma to separate the two ideas. The edited version is: 'The dog barks loudly, and it is happy.'

Now it's your turn! Write three sentences about your favorite animal. Remember to start each sentence with a capital letter and end with the correct punctuation. After you write your sentences, swap with a partner and check each other's work for any mistakes in punctuation or spacing.
