Phonics is the relationship between sounds and the letters that represent those sounds. Today, we will explore how different sounds can be combined to form words. We will also look at how to use these words in sentences. Understanding phonics helps us read and write better.

Let’s take the sounds /c/, /a/, and /t/. When we blend these sounds together, we form the word 'cat'. Now, let’s try another example. If we take the sounds /d/, /o/, and /g/, what word do we get? Yes, 'dog'! Notice how each sound contributes to the whole word.

Now that we have built some words, let’s use them in sentences. I will write a sentence on the board: 'The cat is on the mat.' Let’s identify the words in this sentence. Can anyone tell me what the first word is? Great! Now, let’s create our own sentences using the words 'cat' and 'dog'. Remember to use correct punctuation at the end of your sentences.

For your independent practice, I want you to create a list of five words using the sounds we learned today. After that, write a sentence for each word. Make sure to check your sentences for correct punctuation and spacing. Once you finish, share your sentences with a partner and read them aloud.
