Creative writing allows us to express our thoughts and feelings in unique ways. Today, we will explore how to write short stories and sentences. We will discuss what makes a good story, such as having a beginning, middle, and end. We will also learn about using punctuation marks like full stops, question marks, and exclamation marks to make our writing clear and exciting.
Let’s look at a simple story: 'UThandi uyathanda ukudlala emanzini. Uthandi uthanda ukuhamba nezinja zakhe. Ngelinye ilanga, uThandi wahlangana nezingane eziningi.' This story has a clear beginning where we meet Thandi, a middle where she plays, and an end where she meets other children. Notice how we use full stops to end our sentences.
Now, let’s work together to create sentences. I will say a word, and you will help me build a sentence. For example, if I say 'izinkanyezi' (stars), we can say, 'Izinkanyezi zikhanya phezulu.' (The stars shine above.) Let’s practice using different words and see how we can make interesting sentences together.
It’s your turn to write! Think of a character you like, such as a friend or an animal. Write a short story about what they do on a fun day. Remember to use punctuation marks and make sure your sentences are clear. After writing, share your story with a partner and listen to their story too!
