Pay attention to the details in the story, as they will help you answer questions later.

Let’s look at how to build a sentence. For example, if I say, 'The cat is sleeping,' I have a subject (the cat) and a verb (is sleeping). Now, let’s add punctuation. We need a full stop at the end: 'The cat is sleeping.' Remember, every sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop, question mark, or exclamation mark.

I will read a short story about a boy named Thabo who finds a lost puppy. Listen carefully and think about what happens in the story. After I finish reading, I will ask you some questions. Make sure to raise your hand to answer. Let’s begin! (Read the story aloud.) Now, what did Thabo do when he found the puppy? How did he feel?

Now it’s your turn to practice writing sentences. I want you to write three sentences about your favorite animal. Remember to start each sentence with a capital letter and end with the correct punctuation. After you finish writing, share your sentences with a partner and read them aloud to each other.
