Let's look at some examples together. 'UJohn uthanda izinja.' This is a complete sentence. Notice the capital 'U' at the beginning and the full stop at the end. Now, if I say, 'Uthanda ukudlala?' that is a question, so we use a question mark. Let's practice identifying the punctuation in these sentences and discuss why it is important.
Now, let's write some sentences as a class. I will give you a subject, and you will help me create a sentence. For example, if I say 'UThandi', you might say, 'UThandi uyathanda ukufunda.' Remember to start with a capital letter and end with a punctuation mark. After we write a few sentences together, I will ask you to identify the punctuation we used and explain why it is there.
