Creative writing allows us to express our thoughts and feelings in unique ways. In isiZulu, we can tell stories, describe our experiences, or even create poems. Today, we will learn how to write short texts that are clear and interesting. We will focus on using correct punctuation, such as full stops and question marks, to make our writing easy to read.
Letβs look at an example of a short text: 'UThandi uyathanda ukudlala ibhola. Uthanda futhi ukufunda izincwadi.' This text uses a full stop at the end of each sentence. Notice how each sentence gives us a clear idea about what Thandi enjoys doing. We will practice writing similar sentences about ourselves.
Now, letβs write sentences together. I will ask you a question: 'Yini oyithandayo?' (What do you like?) Each student will share their answer. As they do, I will write their responses on the board. We will ensure to use correct punctuation. For example, if a student says, 'Ngithanda ukudlala,' I will write it down as 'Ngithanda ukudlala.' and we will discuss why the full stop is important.
For your independent practice, I want you to write a short paragraph about your favorite activity. Use at least three sentences and remember to include punctuation. After you finish writing, pair up with a partner and read your paragraph to them. Listen carefully to their feedback and make any changes if needed.
