Let’s look at an example: 'Ngiyathanda ikati. Ikati lami libhaki, linomzimba omncane. Liyajabula uma ngilidlalela.' This short story uses simple sentences and punctuation. Notice how each sentence ends with a full stop, making it easy to read. We can also add more details to make it more exciting!
Now, let’s write a short story together. I will start: 'Ngiyathanda uNokuthula, umngani wami. Uthanda ukudlala.' What should we add next? Think about what Nokuthula likes to do. Let’s create sentences together, and I will write them on the board. Remember to use punctuation at the end of each sentence!
Now it’s your turn! Write a short story about your favorite animal. Use at least three sentences and remember to use punctuation correctly. After you finish, share your story with a partner and listen to their story. Ask each other questions about your stories to practice your speaking skills.
