In mathematics, we can also create patterns using numbers, such as 2, 4, 6, 8, where each number increases by 2. Today, we will explore how to identify and create our own patterns.
Let's create a number pattern together. Start with the number 5. If we add 3 each time, our pattern will be: 5, 8, 11, 14. Notice how each number increases by 3. Now, if we wanted to write the next three numbers in this pattern, we would continue: 17, 20, 23. This shows how we can extend a number pattern by consistently adding the same value.
Now, let's identify some patterns together. Look at this sequence: 10, 20, 30, __, __. What do you think the next two numbers are? (Pause for responses). Yes, the next numbers are 40 and 50 because we are adding 10 each time. Let's try another one: 1, 3, 5, __, __. The next numbers are 7 and 9, as we are adding 2 each time. Great job!
