Kindness means being friendly, generous, and considerate to others. It is an important value in many religions. For example, in Christianity, the Bible teaches us to love our neighbors as ourselves. In Islam, kindness is shown through helping those in need and treating everyone with respect. Today, we will learn how different religions encourage us to be kind.
Let’s look at some examples of kindness. In Buddhism, there is a teaching called 'Metta' which means loving-kindness. A person practicing Metta might help a friend who is sad by listening to them and offering support. In Hinduism, helping others is seen as a way to serve God. If someone shares their lunch with a friend who forgot theirs, that is an act of kindness. Can you think of other examples of kindness from stories or teachings you know?
Now, let’s talk about how we can show kindness in our own lives. Think about a time when someone was kind to you. How did it make you feel? Let’s share our stories. After sharing, we will create a kindness chart on the board where we can list different ways to be kind, such as helping a classmate, sharing toys, or saying nice things to others.
For your independent practice, I want you to think of three ways you can show kindness this week. Write them down in your notebooks. After that, draw a picture of one of the acts of kindness you plan to do. We will share our drawings and ideas in the next class.
