Today, we will explore a short story together. Shared reading allows us to read as a group, helping each other understand the text. As we read, we will make predictions about what might happen next. Predictions are guesses based on what we already know or see in the story. This helps us become better readers and thinkers.

Let's look at the first page of our story. The title is 'The Lost Dog'. What do you think this story might be about? (Pause for responses.) Now, let's read the first few sentences together. After reading, I will ask you again: what do you think will happen next? This is how we practice making predictions based on the text.

Now that we have read the first part of 'The Lost Dog', let’s discuss it. What clues did you find in the text that helped you make your prediction? (Encourage students to point out specific words or phrases.) Remember to use complete sentences when you share your thoughts. For example, you can say, 'I think the dog will find its way home because…'.

I want you to think about the story we read and write your own prediction about what will happen next. Use the sentence starter: 'I predict that…' and finish your sentence. Make sure to use correct punctuation at the end. After you finish writing, I will ask some of you to share your predictions with the class.
