Today, we will explore a short story together. Shared reading allows us to read as a group, helping each other understand the text. We will look at the pictures and think about what might happen next in the story. This is called making predictions. Predictions help us engage with the text and think critically about the story.

Let’s look at the first page of our story. There is a picture of a boy looking at a big tree. What do you think he might do next? (Pause for responses.) Yes, he might climb the tree or maybe he will find something interesting under it. Making predictions is about using clues from the text and our own experiences to guess what will happen.

Now, we will read the next part of the story together. As we read, I want you to raise your hand if you have a prediction about what will happen next. After reading a few sentences, we will pause and discuss our predictions. Remember to listen to your friends’ ideas and think about how they relate to the story.

After our shared reading, I want you to write your own prediction about what will happen at the end of the story. Use at least two sentences and remember to start with a capital letter and end with a full stop. You can also draw a picture to show your prediction. Once you finish, we will share our predictions with the class.
