Grammar is the set of rules that helps us use language correctly. In Sesotho, we need to pay attention to how we form sentences, use punctuation, and space our words. For example, every sentence should start with a capital letter and end with a full stop. Today, we will learn how to identify mistakes in sentences and how to fix them.
Let’s look at this sentence: 'ke rata diphiri'. It is missing a capital letter at the beginning and a full stop at the end. The correct sentence should be 'Ke rata diphiri.' Notice how we fixed the punctuation. Now, let’s try another example together: 'o ja borai'. What do you think is wrong with this sentence?
In groups, you will receive a list of sentences with errors. Your task is to read each sentence aloud, discuss what is wrong, and then write the corrected version on your paper. For example, if you have 'na ke a etela', you should correct it to 'Na ke a etela.' After you finish, each group will share one corrected sentence with the class.
Now it’s your turn to write! Think of three things you like and write a sentence for each. Remember to start each sentence with a capital letter and end with a full stop. For example, 'Ke rata ho bapala.' After writing, swap your paper with a partner and check each other’s sentences for correct punctuation and spacing.
