A sentence is a group of words that express a complete thought. In Setswana, just like in English, sentences start with a capital letter and end with a punctuation mark. The most common punctuation marks are the full stop (.), question mark (?), and exclamation mark (!). For example, 'Ke a itlhophela!' means 'I am happy!' and ends with an exclamation mark to show excitement.
Let's look at some examples of sentences: 'Ngwana o a bapala.' (The child is playing.) This sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop. Another example is 'O kae?' (Where are you?) which ends with a question mark. Notice how the punctuation changes the meaning of the sentence.
