A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought. It starts with a capital letter and ends with a punctuation mark. The most common punctuation marks are the full stop (.), question mark (?), and exclamation mark (!). For example, 'I love siSwati!' is an exclamatory sentence. Today, we will learn how to write sentences correctly and use punctuation marks to make our writing clear.
Let’s look at some examples of sentences. 'The cat is sleeping.' is a simple statement and ends with a full stop. 'Are you coming to the party?' is a question and ends with a question mark. 'Wow, that is amazing!' shows excitement and ends with an exclamation mark. Notice how each sentence has a capital letter at the beginning and a punctuation mark at the end.
Now, let’s create sentences together. I will say a word, and you will help me form a sentence. For example, if I say 'dog', you might say, 'The dog is barking.' Let’s try another one with 'school'. What sentence can we make? Remember to start with a capital letter and end with the right punctuation. After we create a few sentences, we will write them on the board.
