A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought. It starts with a capital letter and ends with a punctuation mark, such as a full stop (.), question mark (?), or exclamation mark (!). For example, 'I love Tshivenda.' is a complete sentence. Today, we will learn how to write our own sentences and use punctuation correctly.
Let’s look at some examples. 'The cat is sleeping.' is a sentence that tells us what the cat is doing. Notice the capital letter at the beginning and the full stop at the end. Another example is 'Are you coming to my party?' This sentence asks a question, so it ends with a question mark. We will practice writing similar sentences together.
Now, let’s write a sentence together. I will say a sentence, and you will help me write it on the board. The sentence is: 'The sun is shining.' What do we start with? (Wait for responses) Yes, a capital letter! And how do we end it? (Wait for responses) Correct, with a full stop! Let's write it together: 'The sun is shining.' Great job! Now, let’s try another one.
