Today, we will explore a short story together. Shared reading allows us to read as a group, helping us to understand the text better. We will look at the title and pictures first to make predictions about what the story might be about. This will help us engage with the text and think critically about the content.
Let’s look at the title of our story: 'The Brave Little Lion'. What do you think this story will be about? (Pause for student responses.) Now, let’s look at the picture on the first page. What do you see? (Encourage students to describe the image.) Based on the title and the picture, I predict that the lion will go on an adventure. What do you think will happen next?
Now, we will read the story together. I will read the first paragraph, and then I will ask you to read the next one. After each paragraph, we will stop and discuss what we think is happening and what might happen next. Remember to think about your predictions and share your ideas with the class.
After our reading session, I want you to write three sentences about the story. Use correct punctuation at the end of each sentence. You can write about your favorite part, what you think will happen next, or how the characters feel. Make sure to leave spaces between your words!
