When we read with expression, we use our voice to convey feelings and meaning. For example, when a character is happy, we can read with a cheerful tone, and when they are sad, we can use a softer voice.

Let's read a short story together. The story is about a young boy named 'Tshilidzi' who finds a lost puppy. As we read, pay attention to how we can change our voices. For instance, when Tshilidzi is excited about finding the puppy, we can read that part with a loud and happy voice. After reading, we will discuss how the different tones helped us understand the story better.

Now, pair up with a partner and choose a short text from the reading corner. Take turns reading the text aloud to each other. Remember to focus on your fluency and expression. After each person reads, discuss how the other person’s voice changed the meaning of the text. Did they sound excited, sad, or surprised? Share your thoughts and help each other improve.

For your independent practice, write three sentences about your favorite animal. Make sure to use correct punctuation at the end of each sentence. After writing, read your sentences aloud to yourself, paying attention to how you can express different feelings about your animal. You can also illustrate your sentences to make them more fun!
