Creative writing allows us to express our thoughts and feelings in unique ways. In Xitsonga, we can create stories, poems, or descriptions. Today, we will focus on writing short texts. We will learn how to use punctuation marks like full stops, commas, and question marks to make our writing clear and interesting.
Let’s look at a simple example: 'U phila kahle. U na le ndhlu ya mintsu. U rhandza ku hlola mintsu.' This text uses full stops to separate sentences. Notice how each sentence gives us a new piece of information about the subject. We will practice writing similar sentences today.
In groups, let’s create sentences together. I will give you a picture of a cat. Discuss what the cat is doing and come up with three sentences. Remember to use full stops at the end of each sentence. After you write your sentences, we will share them with the class. This will help us learn from each other.
Now it’s your turn to write! Think of your favorite animal and write a short text about it. Describe what it looks like, what it eats, and where it lives. Use at least five sentences and remember to check your punctuation. Once you finish, we will have a sharing session where you can read your text to a partner.
