Creative writing allows us to express our thoughts and feelings in unique ways. In Xitsonga, we can create stories, poems, or even short descriptions. Today, we will focus on writing a short story about our favorite animal. We will discuss what makes an animal special and how we can describe it using interesting words.

Let’s look at an example of a short story: 'Nwa-nwa wa mina, u na le ndzhaka. U khoma swihlahla swa mintsoko. U rhandza ku dya switlhavi.' This story describes a child’s favorite animal, a monkey. Notice how we used simple sentences and proper punctuation. Each sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop.

In groups, choose an animal and discuss what makes it special. Each group will create a short story about their chosen animal. Use descriptive words and remember to write complete sentences. After writing, each group will share their story with the class. I will help you with punctuation and spacing as needed.

Now it’s your turn! Write your own short story about your favorite animal. Make sure to include at least three sentences. Remember to use capital letters at the beginning of each sentence and full stops at the end. After you finish writing, read your story to a partner and check if they understand it.
