Xitsonga Home Language - Term 1 - Week 5

Today, we will learn new words that are important in our daily lives. Vocabulary helps us express ourselves clearly. We will read a short story together and identify new words. After reading, we will discuss the meanings of these words and how we can use them in sentences.

Let’s look at the sentence: 'The cat is sleeping.' We can identify the subject (the cat) and the action (is sleeping). Now, let’s change the sentence to: 'The dog is barking.' Notice how we kept the structure but changed the subject and action. This is how we can create new sentences using our vocabulary.

In groups, you will receive a set of vocabulary cards. Each card has a word on it. Your task is to create sentences using these words. Remember to use correct punctuation at the end of your sentences. After 10 minutes, each group will share one sentence with the class.

Now, it’s your turn to write! Choose five new words you learned today and write a sentence for each. Make sure to use correct punctuation and spacing. After you finish, read your sentences to a partner and discuss what you wrote.
