Reading fluency is the ability to read a text smoothly and accurately. It involves recognizing words quickly and understanding their meaning. In this lesson, we will focus on reading short texts aloud, paying attention to expression and punctuation. Good readers use their voices to convey emotions and meaning, making the story come alive.

Let's read a short story together. The story is about a little cat named Whiskers who loves to explore. As we read, I will demonstrate how to use different voices for Whiskers and other characters. Notice how I pause at punctuation marks and change my tone to match the feelings in the story. For example, when Whiskers is happy, I will read with a cheerful voice, and when he is scared, my voice will be softer and slower.

Now, it's your turn! In small groups, choose a short text from the reading corner. Each student will take turns reading a paragraph aloud. Remember to use expression and pay attention to punctuation. After reading, discuss with your group how the characters might feel in different parts of the story. How can you show those feelings with your voice?

For independent practice, write three sentences about your favorite animal. Make sure to use correct punctuation and spacing. After writing, read your sentences aloud to a partner, using expression to show how your animal feels. You can also illustrate your sentences to make them more interesting!
