Let's look at a few examples. If I say, 'The cat is on the mat,' we can identify that it starts with a capital letter and ends with a period. Now, let's create a new sentence together. How about, 'The dog barks loudly'? Notice how we used a capital letter at the beginning and a period at the end. Can anyone suggest another sentence?

Now, I will give you a picture of a park. Look at the picture and think about what you see. With a partner, discuss what is happening in the park. After your discussion, write down one sentence about the park. Remember to use a capital letter at the start and a punctuation mark at the end. I will walk around to help you!

For your independent task, I want you to write a short story about your favorite animal. Use at least three sentences. Make sure each sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with the correct punctuation. After you finish writing, draw a picture of your animal and label it.
