Punctuation marks are symbols that help us understand the meaning of sentences. For example, a period (.) shows that a sentence has ended, while a question mark (?) indicates a question. Today, we will learn how to use these marks correctly in our writing. We will also discuss the importance of spacing between words to make our sentences clear.
Let's look at the sentence: 'the dog ran fast it was happy' - this sentence needs punctuation and spacing. We can correct it to: 'The dog ran fast. It was happy.' Notice how we added a period to separate the two ideas and capitalized the first word. This makes the sentence clearer and easier to read.
In groups, you will receive a list of sentences that have punctuation and spacing mistakes. Work together to identify the errors and rewrite the sentences correctly. For example, if you see 'i love ice cream it is my favorite', you should change it to 'I love ice cream. It is my favorite.' After you finish, we will share our corrections with the class.
Now it's your turn to write! Create three sentences about your favorite animal. Make sure to use correct punctuation and spacing. For example, 'My cat is fluffy. She loves to play.' After writing, swap your sentences with a partner and check each other's work for any mistakes.
