Today, we will learn how to use these punctuation marks correctly.
Let’s look at the following sentence: 'UThandiwe uthanda ukudla isinkwa uMusa.' This sentence is missing punctuation. The correct version is: 'UThandiwe uthanda ukudla isinkwa, uMusa.' Notice how the comma helps clarify that Musa is being addressed. We will practice correcting similar sentences together.
Now, let’s work together to create sentences. I will give you a list of words: 'umfana', 'ujabule', 'ukudlala'. How can we put these words into a complete sentence? One possible sentence is: 'Umfana ujabule ukudlala.' Remember to use a full stop at the end. Let’s write a few more sentences as a class, ensuring we use correct punctuation.
For your independent practice, I want you to write three sentences about your favorite food. Make sure to include at least one punctuation mark in each sentence. After writing, swap your paper with a partner and check each other’s work for punctuation errors. Discuss any mistakes and correct them together.
