A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought. It starts with a capital letter and ends with a punctuation mark, such as a period, question mark, or exclamation mark. Punctuation helps us understand how to read sentences correctly. For example, 'Uthanda ukudlala' (He/She loves to play) is a complete sentence. When we write, we must remember to use punctuation to make our writing clear and understandable.
Let’s look at some examples of sentences. 'Uthanda ukufunda.' (He/She loves to read.) This sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a period. Now, if we want to ask a question, we can say, 'Uthanda ukufunda na?' (Does he/she love to read?) Notice how the question mark is used at the end. Lastly, for excitement, we can say, 'Uthanda ukudlala!' (He/She loves to play!) Here, we use an exclamation mark to show excitement.
Now, let’s practice together. I will say a sentence, and you will help me write it down correctly. For example, I say, 'Uthanda ukudlala.' What do we need to add at the beginning and the end? Yes! A capital letter at the start and a period at the end. Let’s try another one: 'Uthanda ukudlala na?' What punctuation do we use here? Correct! A question mark. Let’s write these sentences on the board together.

Remember to start each sentence with a capital letter and end with the correct punctuation. After you finish writing, share your sentences with a partner and check if they have used punctuation correctly. This will help you learn from each other!
