Listening and speaking are essential skills that help us communicate effectively. In this lesson, we will listen to a short story in isiZulu and discuss its main ideas. We will also practice speaking by sharing our thoughts and feelings about the story. This will help us improve our vocabulary and sentence structure.
Let’s read a short story together: 'UThandiwe noMusa bahamba emgwaqweni. Bafika emnyango wezikole. UThandiwe uthi, “Ngiyafuna ukufunda!” UMusa uthi, “Ngiyavuma!”' After reading, we will discuss what the characters want to do and how they feel about school.
After listening to the story, I will ask you some questions. For example, 'Yini uThandiwe afuna ukuyifunda?' (What does Thandiwe want to learn?) and 'Uthandiwe noMusa bazizwa kanjani ngempilo esikoleni?' (How do Thandiwe and Musa feel about school?). Let’s take turns answering these questions and share our ideas.
Now, I want you to write three sentences about your favorite activity. Remember to use correct punctuation and spacing. For example, 'Ngithanda ukudlala ibhola.' (I like to play soccer.) After writing, pair up with a partner and read your sentences to each other. Make sure to listen carefully and ask questions about what your partner wrote.
