Measurement is the process of determining the size, length, or amount of something. In this lesson, we will focus on common units of measurement such as centimeters (cm), meters (m), and liters (L). For example, a pencil might be 15 cm long, while a table could be 1.5 m long. Understanding these units helps us compare and describe objects in our world.
Let’s measure the length of a book. If the book is 20 cm long, we can write this as: Length of the book = 20 cm. If we have another book that is 30 cm long, we can compare the two. We can say that the second book is longer by 10 cm. This comparison helps us understand how measurement works in everyday life.
Now, let’s practice measuring some objects around the classroom. I will give you a ruler, and you will measure the length of your desk in centimeters. Write down your measurement. After that, we will compare our measurements as a class. Remember to check if you are starting from the zero mark on the ruler!
