A place of worship is a location where people gather to practice their religion. Different religions have different types of places of worship. For example, Christians go to churches, Muslims visit mosques, Jews pray in synagogues, and Hindus worship in temples. Each of these places has unique features and serves as a community hub for followers.

Let’s look at a few examples of places of worship. In a church, you might see a cross and hear hymns being sung. In a mosque, there are often beautiful calligraphy and a prayer area. Synagogues may have a Torah scroll and a special area for prayer. Temples can have statues of deities and are often colorful and vibrant. Each place has its own customs and traditions that reflect the beliefs of the people who worship there.

Now, let’s work together to identify some places of worship. I will show you pictures of different buildings, and you will tell me which religion they belong to. For example, if I show you a picture of a mosque, you will say it is a place of worship for Muslims. We will also discuss what activities might take place in each of these places.

For your independent practice, I want you to imagine you are designing your own place of worship. Draw a picture of it and label it with the name of the religion it represents. Write a few sentences explaining what makes your place special and what activities would happen there. Be creative and think about the symbols and practices that are important to that religion.
