Phonics is the relationship between sounds and their spellings. In Sepedi, understanding phonics helps us read and write better. Today, we will focus on the sounds of letters and how they combine to form words. For example, the sound 'b' can be combined with 'a' to form the word 'ba'. Similarly, if we use 's', 'e', and 't', we can create the word 'set'. We will practice these combinations together, and I will write them on the board for everyone to see.
Now that we have built some words, let’s use them in sentences. For instance, using the word 'mat', we can say, 'Ke na le mat.' (I have a mat.) I will write this sentence on the board. Let’s practice saying it together. After that, I will ask you to create your own sentences using the words we built earlier. Remember to use correct punctuation at the end of your sentences.
For your independent practice, I want you to choose three words we built today. Write each word in a sentence of your own. Make sure to use correct spacing and punctuation. Once you finish, we will share our sentences with the class. This will help us learn from each other and improve our writing skills.
