I will ask questions like, 'What did the rabbit do to escape?' and 'Why was the rabbit clever?' This will help us practice listening for details and speaking about what we heard.

After listening to the story, we will have a class discussion. I will ask each student to share their favorite part of the story. As we speak, I will remind everyone to use complete sentences and to listen carefully to their classmates. For example, if a student says, 'I liked when the rabbit tricked the fox,' I will encourage them to expand by saying, 'I liked when the rabbit tricked the fox because it was very clever.'

Now it's your turn to practice writing! I want you to write three sentences about your favorite animal. Remember to use correct punctuation and spacing. After writing, pair up with a partner and read your sentences aloud to each other. This will help you practice speaking and listening at the same time.
