Sepedi Home Language - Term 3 - Week 9

Shared reading is an interactive reading experience where the teacher reads a text aloud while students follow along. This week, we will focus on predicting what might happen next in the story based on the title and illustrations. Predictions help us engage with the text and think critically about the content.

Let’s look at a short story titled 'Mokhudu le Kgoši' (The Frog and the King). Before reading, I will show you the cover page. What do you think this story might be about? Students might say, 'It’s about a frog and a king.' Now, let’s read the first few sentences together and see if our predictions are correct.

In small groups, students will be given a new short text. Each group will read the title and look at the pictures. I will ask them to discuss what they think the story is about and write down their predictions. After 5 minutes, each group will share their predictions with the class. This will encourage collaboration and critical thinking.

Now that we have practiced predicting, each student will write a short paragraph about what they think will happen next in the story we read together. They should use at least three sentences and remember to use correct punctuation. After writing, they will pair up and read their predictions to a partner.
