A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought. In Sesotho, just like in English, sentences start with a capital letter and end with a punctuation mark. The most common punctuation marks are the full stop (.), question mark (?), and exclamation mark (!). For example, 'Ke rata ho bapala' (I like to play) is a complete sentence. We will learn how to identify and use these punctuation marks correctly.
Let’s look at some sentences and identify the punctuation marks. For instance, 'O kae?' (Where are you?) ends with a question mark because it is asking something. Another example is 'Ke thabile!' (I am happy!), which ends with an exclamation mark to show excitement. We will practice reading sentences aloud and noticing the punctuation at the end.
