Reading fluency is the ability to read text smoothly and accurately. It involves recognizing words quickly and understanding their meaning. In this lesson, we will practice reading short texts aloud, focusing on how to express emotions and ideas through our voice. Good readers use different tones and speeds to make their reading interesting.

Let's read a short story together. The story is about a little bird who learns to fly. As we read, pay attention to how I change my voice when the bird is happy and when it is scared. After reading, we will discuss how the bird felt at different points in the story and how we can express those feelings when we read.

Now, pair up with a partner. Each of you will take turns reading a short paragraph from the story. Remember to use expression in your voice. After each paragraph, discuss with your partner how the character might be feeling and how you can show that feeling through your reading. I will walk around to listen and provide feedback.

For your independent practice, write three sentences about your favorite animal. Use correct punctuation and spacing. After writing, read your sentences aloud to a classmate, using expression to show how your animal feels. Think about how you can make your reading exciting and engaging.
