Today, we will engage in shared reading, where we read a short text together as a class. Shared reading helps us improve our reading skills and allows us to discuss the story. Before we start reading, I will show you the title and some pictures from the text. We will make predictions about what we think the story is about based on these clues.

Let’s look at the title of our text: 'Tlhokomelo ya Mma'. What do you think this story might be about? (Pause for student responses.) Now, let’s look at the pictures. What do you see? (Encourage students to describe the images.) Based on the title and pictures, I predict that the story will be about a mother taking care of her children. What do you think?

Now, let’s read the text together. I will read the first paragraph, and then you will read the next one. As we read, think about whether your predictions were correct. After each paragraph, we will pause to discuss what we read and how it relates to our predictions. What new information did we learn? Did anything surprise you?

After our reading, I want you to write three sentences about the story. Use correct punctuation and spacing. Think about what you liked about the story and how it made you feel. Once you finish writing, share your sentences with a partner and discuss your thoughts about the story.
