Creative writing allows us to express our thoughts and feelings in unique ways. Today, we will explore how to write short stories and poems. We will discuss the importance of using proper punctuation, such as full stops and commas, to make our writing clear and enjoyable to read.
Let’s look at a short story together. 'Once upon a time, there was a little bird named Tswelo. Tswelo loved to sing every morning. One day, he met a friend, a butterfly named Pula. They sang together and made the forest happy.' Notice how each sentence has a clear idea and ends with a full stop.
Now, let’s write a short story as a class. I will start with a sentence: 'In a small village, there lived a wise old man.' What should happen next? Let’s brainstorm ideas together. Remember to think about how we can use punctuation to separate our thoughts and make our story flow.
Now it’s your turn! Write your own short story or poem about your favorite animal. Make sure to use at least five sentences and include proper punctuation. After you finish writing, pair up with a friend and read your story to each other. Listen carefully and give each other feedback.
