Creative writing allows us to express our thoughts and feelings in unique ways. In siSwati, we can create stories, poems, or descriptions. Today, we will focus on writing short texts. We will learn how to use punctuation marks like full stops, commas, and question marks to make our writing clear and interesting.
Let’s look at a simple example: 'Ngiyathanda ukudla. Ngithanda ikhekhe le-chocolate.' This text has two sentences. Notice how we use a full stop at the end of each sentence. This helps the reader know when one thought ends and another begins.
Now, let’s create sentences as a class. I will say a word, and you will help me form a sentence. For example, if I say 'umntwana' (child), you might say, 'Umntwana uyadlala.' (The child is playing.) Remember to use a full stop at the end of your sentence. Let’s try a few more words together.
Now it’s your turn! Write a short text about your favorite animal. Use at least three sentences and remember to use correct punctuation. After you finish writing, read your text to a partner. This will help you practice your speaking skills and share your ideas.
