A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought. It starts with a capital letter and ends with a punctuation mark, such as a full stop (.), question mark (?), or exclamation mark (!). For example, 'Ngiyathanda ukudlala' (I love to play) is a complete sentence. We must remember to leave a space between each word to make our sentences clear.
Let's look at some examples. If I say 'Umntwana ubhalela incwadi' (The child is writing a letter), we can identify that it starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop. Now, if I ask you to change it to a question, you could say, 'Umntwana ubhalela incwadi?' (Is the child writing a letter?). Notice how we changed the punctuation at the end to a question mark.
Now, let's work together. I will give you a few words: 'umama', 'ukupheka', 'kukhona'. Can anyone form a sentence using these words? Remember to start with a capital letter and end with the correct punctuation. For example, you could say, 'Umama uyakupheka.' (Mom is cooking.)
