Today, we will explore phonics, which is the relationship between sounds and letters. We will focus on specific sounds in siSwati, such as 'sh', 'th', and 'ch'. Understanding these sounds will help us read and write better. I will say a sound, and you will repeat it after me. Let’s start with 'sh'.

Let’s take the sound 'sh'. We can build words like 'shumi' (money) and 'shisa' (to be hot). I will write these words on the board. Notice how each word starts with the 'sh' sound. Now, let’s look at the sound 'th'. Can anyone think of a word that starts with 'th'? Yes, 'thula' (to be quiet) is a great example!

Now, let’s create sentences using the words we built. For example, 'Shumi yami' means 'My money'. I will give you a word, and you will create a sentence. The word is 'shisa'. Think of a sentence that uses this word. Remember to use correct punctuation at the end of your sentence!
