Grammar is the set of rules that helps us use language correctly. Punctuation marks, like full stops, commas, and question marks, help us understand the meaning of sentences. For example, a full stop tells us that a sentence has ended, while a question mark indicates a question. Today, we will learn how to use these tools to make our writing clearer.
Let’s look at this sentence: 'the cat run fast'. It has a mistake. The correct sentence is 'The cat runs fast.' Notice how we capitalized the first letter and added an 's' to 'run' to make it correct. Let’s try another one: 'i like to play'. The correct version is 'I like to play.' We capitalized 'I' and added a full stop at the end.
In groups, you will receive a list of sentences with mistakes. Work together to find and correct the errors. For example, if you see 'she go to school', you should change it to 'She goes to school.' After correcting, each group will share one corrected sentence with the class.
Now, it’s your turn to write! Write five sentences about your favorite animal. Make sure to start each sentence with a capital letter and end with the correct punctuation. After you finish, swap your work with a partner and check each other's sentences for any mistakes.
