Reading fluency is the ability to read a text smoothly and accurately. It involves recognizing words quickly and expressing them with the right emotions. In this lesson, we will practice reading short stories in Xitsonga to help us become fluent readers. We will focus on how to use our voices to show feelings in the stories we read.

Let’s read a short story together: 'U Mbhokota no Mavula'. In this story, Mbhokota goes to the river and meets Mavula. As we read, pay attention to how we can change our voices to show excitement when Mbhokota finds something special. Notice how punctuation marks like commas and exclamation marks help us know how to read with expression.

Now, I will divide you into pairs. Each pair will take turns reading the story aloud. One person will read while the other listens. After reading, discuss how you can change your voice to make the story more interesting. Think about the emotions of the characters and how you can express them through your reading.

For independent practice, I want you to write three sentences about your favorite part of the story. Make sure to use correct punctuation and spacing. After writing, read your sentences aloud to a partner, using expression to show how you felt about that part of the story.
