Reflection is the process of thinking about what we have done, how we did it, and what we can improve. In Creative Arts, reflection helps us understand our creative choices and the impact of our work. Assessment, on the other hand, is how we evaluate our work and the work of others. It involves looking at the strengths and areas for improvement in our art. Together, reflection and assessment help us grow as artists.
Imagine you just completed a painting. To reflect, you might ask yourself questions like: What did I enjoy about creating this painting? What challenges did I face? If I could do it again, what would I change? This process helps you think critically about your work and learn from your experiences.
As a class, we will look at a piece of artwork created by one of your classmates. Together, we will assess it by discussing what we like about it and what could be improved. We will use vocabulary such as 'color choice', 'composition', and 'technique' to guide our discussion. This will help us practice giving constructive feedback and understanding how to assess art.
For your mini-project, create a small piece of art using any medium you like (drawing, painting, collage, etc.). After completing your artwork, write a short reflection that answers the following questions: What inspired your artwork? What techniques did you use? What do you like most about it? What would you change if you could? Be prepared to share your artwork and reflection with the class.
