Shared reading is a collaborative reading experience where the teacher reads a text aloud while students follow along. This method encourages students to engage with the text and enhances their comprehension skills. Today, we will read a short story together and make predictions about what might happen next based on the clues provided in the text.
As we read the first paragraph of our story, let’s look for clues. For example, if the text describes a dark forest and a character who is lost, we might predict that they will encounter something scary. I will write down our predictions on the board, and we will discuss why we think those events might happen.
Now, I will divide you into small groups. Each group will read a different paragraph of the story. After reading, discuss with your group what you think will happen next and why. Remember to use clues from the text to support your predictions. After 10 minutes, each group will share their predictions with the class.
Individually, you will write a short paragraph predicting what will happen next in the story. Use at least three clues from the text to support your prediction. Make sure to check your sentences for correct punctuation and spacing before you hand in your work.
