It starts with a capital letter and ends with a punctuation mark, such as a full stop (.), question mark (?), or exclamation mark (!). Punctuation helps us understand the meaning of sentences. For example, 'Uthanda ukudla' (You love food) is a complete thought, while 'Uthanda' (You love) is not. In isiNdebele, we also use punctuation to clarify our messages.
Let's look at some examples of sentences in isiNdebele. 'Ngiyafunda incwadi.' (I am reading a book.) This sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop. If we want to ask a question, we can say, 'Uphi umngane wakho?' (Where is your friend?) Notice how it ends with a question mark. Lastly, for excitement, we can say, 'Ngiyajabula!' (I am happy!) which ends with an exclamation mark.
Now, let's practice writing sentences together. I will give you a few words, and you will create sentences using those words. For example, if I say 'umfana' (boy), 'ukudlala' (to play), and 'ebhishi' (at the beach), you can write: 'Umfana udlala ebhishi.' (The boy is playing at the beach.)
