Shared reading is a collaborative approach where the teacher reads a text aloud while students follow along. This method encourages students to engage with the text actively. Today, we will read a short story together and make predictions about what might happen next. Predictions are educated guesses based on clues from the text and illustrations.

As we read the first paragraph of our story, I will ask you to look for clues. For example, if the story begins with 'It was a dark and stormy night,' what do you think might happen next? You might predict that a character will get lost or that something mysterious will occur. Let’s write down our predictions and discuss why we think that.

Now, I will divide you into small groups. Each group will read a different paragraph of the same story. After reading, discuss within your group what you think will happen next. Use the clues from your paragraph to support your predictions. After 10 minutes, each group will share their predictions with the class, and we will compare them.

For your independent task, I want you to write a short paragraph predicting the ending of the story we read. Use at least three sentences and make sure to include correct punctuation. After writing, illustrate your prediction with a drawing that represents your ideas. Be prepared to share your paragraph and drawing with the class.
