isiXhosa Home Language - Term 3 - Week 10

Guided reading is a teaching approach where students read texts that are slightly above their current reading level with the support of the teacher. It is important to pay attention to punctuation and spacing as we write our responses.

Let’s read the story 'Uthando Lwethu' together. As we read, I will pause to ask questions about the characters and events. For example, after reading a paragraph, I might ask, 'Yini eyenzeka kuThando?' (What happens to Thando?). This helps us think critically about the text and understand it better.

After reading the text, we will break into small groups to discuss our thoughts. Each group will answer the following questions: 'Uthando ungubani?' (Who is Thando?) and 'Yini eyenza uThando ajabule?' (What makes Thando happy?). I will circulate among the groups to listen and provide support. Remember to use complete sentences and correct punctuation when sharing your answers.

Now, each student will write a short paragraph about their favorite character from the story. They should include at least three sentences, using correct punctuation and spacing. After writing, students will exchange their paragraphs with a partner for peer review, checking for any punctuation errors or unclear sentences.
