A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought. It starts with a capital letter and ends with a punctuation mark, such as a full stop (.), question mark (?), or exclamation mark (!). Punctuation helps us understand the meaning of sentences. For example, 'Uthanda ukudlala' (He loves to play) is a complete sentence. When we write, we must also ensure that there is a space between each word to make our writing clear.
Let's look at some examples of sentences. 'Ngiyafunda isiZulu.' (I am learning isiZulu.) This sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop. If we want to ask a question, we can say, 'Uphi umngane wakho?' (Where is your friend?) Notice how it ends with a question mark. Lastly, for excitement, we can say, 'Ngiyajabula!' (I am happy!) which ends with an exclamation mark. Each of these sentences is clear and correctly punctuated.
Now, let's practice together. I will give you a few words, and you will help me form sentences. For example, if I say 'umfana' (boy), 'udlala' (plays), and 'ebhishi' (in the park), you can create the sentence: 'Umfana udlala ebhishi.' (The boy plays in the park.)
