Phonics is the relationship between sounds and their written symbols. In isiZulu, understanding phonics helps learners decode words and improve their reading skills. Today, we will focus on the sounds of vowels and consonants in isiZulu words. We will also learn how to blend these sounds to form new words.

Let's take the word 'umntwana' (child). If we break it down, we have the sounds: 'u', 'm', 'n', 't', 'w', 'a', 'n', 'a'. Now, if we change the first sound to 'u' to make 'umfana' (boy), we see how changing just one sound can create a new word. This is how we build words in isiZulu.

Now, let's work together to create new words. I will say a word, and you will help me change one letter to form a new word. For example, if I say 'umama' (mother), what happens if we change the 'm' to 'n'? Yes, we get 'unama' (with meat). Let's try a few more words together.
