Decision making is a vital skill that we use every day. It involves choosing between different options and considering the consequences of each choice. In this lesson, we will discuss how making healthy decisions can positively impact our lives and the lives of those around us. We will also explore how respectful behavior plays a role in our decision-making process.
Let's consider a scenario: You are at a birthday party, and there are many delicious snacks available, but some are not healthy. You have a choice to make. If you choose to eat a lot of sweets, you might feel sick later. However, if you choose to eat some fruit and a small piece of cake, you can enjoy the party without feeling bad afterward. This example shows how we can weigh our options and make healthier decisions.
In small groups, students will be given different scenarios to role-play. For example, one scenario could be deciding whether to help a friend with homework or play video games. Each group will discuss the options, consider the consequences, and then act out their decision. After each role play, we will discuss as a class what choices were made and why.
Students will take a few minutes to reflect on a recent decision they made. They will write down what the decision was, what options they considered, and how they felt about the outcome. After reflecting, each student will set a small goal related to making healthier choices or showing respectful behavior in their daily lives. They will share their goals with a partner.
