Measurement is a way to quantify the properties of objects, such as length, mass, and capacity. Length can be measured in meters or centimeters, mass in kilograms or grams, and capacity in liters or milliliters. It is important to choose the correct unit based on what you are measuring. For example, we use centimeters for measuring the height of a pencil, while we use liters for measuring the volume of a bottle.
Let's say we want to measure the length of a desk. We can use a ruler. If the desk measures 120 centimeters, we write this as 120 cm. If we convert this to meters, we divide by 100, giving us 1.2 meters. This shows how to convert between different units of length.
Now, let’s practice measuring mass. If we have a bag of flour that weighs 2 kilograms, how many grams does it weigh? Remember, 1 kilogram is equal to 1000 grams. Therefore, 2 kilograms is 2 x 1000 = 2000 grams. Work with a partner to convert the following weights: 3 kg to grams and 1500 g to kilograms.
Complete the following problems on your own: 1. If a bottle holds 2 liters of water, how many milliliters is that? 2. A pencil is 15 cm long. How long is it in meters? 3. If a bag of rice weighs 5 kg, how many grams is that? Show your working clearly for each problem.

There are 1000 grams in a kilogram, so 3 kg is 3 x 1000 = 3000 grams.
