Non-living things, on the other hand, do not possess these characteristics. They can be natural, like rocks and water, or man-made, like toys and buildings. It's important to recognize these differences to understand the world around us.
Let's classify some examples together. If I say 'dog', you would identify it as a living thing because it can grow, eat, and reproduce. If I say 'chair', you would classify it as a non-living thing because it does not grow or respond to its environment. This exercise helps us practice distinguishing between the two categories.
In small groups, you will receive a set of pictures showing various items. Your task is to sort them into two categories: living and non-living things. Discuss with your group why you placed each item in its respective category. After sorting, we will share our findings with the class and discuss any differences in our classifications.
For your mini-project, create a poster that illustrates examples of living and non-living things. Include at least five examples of each, with pictures or drawings.
